The Self-care Vow That Changed The Course Of My Life

Twelve years ago, I made a self-care vow. One that eventually led me to leave my job and one I’ve shared with thousands of women in my teaching/wellness practice and on The Global Women’s Self-care Day Facebook page. Unfortunately, not much is happening with this initiative at the moment.

Self-care is a big deal for me. I take it very seriously. It’s not a trend that I turn on and off. It (not me) is always on. You can read about how A Self-care Sabbatical Led Me To My Passions And Purpose.

Every time the urge to forgo a self-care practice arises, I tell myself, “be impeccable with your word, Dixie,” and that helps me to honor my vow every single day. Not perfectly, but intentionally. The “intention” is “to do something.” And guess what? Doing nothing is something.

At times, that something may change because life happens. But best believe another doable thing will take place. Sometimes the self-care acts are minuscule, and sometimes, they are enormous. Be it big or small; I take action. I’m also guided by a process I call TRIPLE A: Awareness, Acceptance, Action. Be in Awareness of your needs. Accept that you need what you need and take Action to get what you need.

I hope something about this resonates with you. Here is my self-care vow.

I VOW TO:

Make self-care a priority.

Be unapologetic about my care.

Do something to nurture my body, mind & spirit every day.

Take great care of me, and support others with love, goodness, and grace.

Have you ever made a promise or vow to yourself that you consistently work to honor? What is it? Share and comment below.

I'm a teacher, beauty/wellness founder, and Qigong Instructor. My work exists to support women and people experiencing the menopausal transition on their health and wellness journey. I believe in the sacredness, wholeness, and expansiveness of well-being and the menopausal passage, and I care deeply about teaching and creating experiences and safe spaces that provide support.
