Empty nesting is not going quite as I expected. It’s way more difficult to cope than I thought. More to come in another post.
With all the preparation for my daughter’s journey to the UK to begin university, I barely had time to focus on my work and passions, much less share properly. But I’m easing back into my life and love that I get to share these moments with you.
Yah girl did ah thang back in August but did not have the time to share it on the blog. To make a long story short, serendipity led me to a brilliant woman named Ruby. Her company uses its power to make a difference. We worked together and eventually landed on a project where I shared about one of my sheroes, Allyson Felix. Keep in mind, while working on the project, I had no idea who it was for.
So imagine my surprise when I later learned it was Allyson’s project and I was going to be a “muse.” Me. How cool is that?
Here is a little backstory about why I like Allyson. I used to run the 100 and 200 meters and throw the javelin and discus when I was younger. So I’m an avid track and field supporter and catch as many events as possible on TV. I first heard of Allyson when she won silver at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. Her quiet, graceful essence captured my heart, and I’ve been a supporter ever since.
There is so much to Allyson’s story and why she started her company, SAYSH. You can Google for more info. But also, to learn more about SAYSH, how it came to fruition, and the mission that makes it so magical, take a look at Allyson’s video HERE.
SAYSH flew me out to LA, where I met some staff and an incredible crew for the shoot. Honestly, I could not have asked for a more welcoming group of people to do this shoot with. Everyone involved was brilliant, gracious, patient, and accommodating. This meant so much because set life was new for me. But I loved every minute of the 8 am to 7 pm shoot day and left with amplified appreciation for the opportunity and total respect for the people who do this work.
Me. The muse for a campaign. 50-year-old me. Can you believe it? To all of you plus 40 and 50-year-olds out there thinking this is a time to hang up your hat and sit on the invisible “back burner,” think again. It’s hot time (pun intended.) lol. It’s always your time. Go out into the world and do what you love. Your vibe will attract your tribe.
Of course, the sneakers and scarves are beautiful and fun. Like SAYSH says, “made for women by women.” Go check out SAYSH. “Sneakers to be seen in.”
