Tarsha Marshall is a celebrity hairstylist with over 25 years of experience. She has worked with Mariah Carey, Sherri Shepherd, Gayle King and La La Anthony. When asked about her views on beauty, Tarsha says ” real beauty comes from within, I simply enhance what’s already there.”

As you can imagine, her career keeps her on the go. So what does a girl on the go do to maintain some semblance of sanity? Read on to learn the self-care rituals that Tarsha practices to elevate and maintain her wellness.

Daily

Daily rituals for me are to strengthen and balance my spirit, soul, and body for the everyday journey of life.

For my spirit, I wake up pretty early every day, usually between 5 and 6 am. I start my mornings with prayer. Communicating with God and having quiet time before I start my day keeps me at peace. That peace helps me to quiet the noise because the world is very noisy right now with everyday life, politics, and more tv shows and channels then we can watch. And I can’t forget social media. It’s easy to let the cares of the world overwhelm you, that is something I try to avoid but it is not always easy. There is something about entering the day with a calm spirit, it puts me in the right frame of mind.

For my mind, which is the pathway to my soul, I am learning to monitor what I take in, what I watch, read and listen to every day. I want my mind and spirit to be fed daily with healthy images and words of wisdom. Because I believe whatever we take in will come out in the way we speak, the way we converse with others and how we present ourselves to the world. We take in negativity constantly, every day that is because it’s our society’s normal. So it’s important to me to purposely fill my soul with positivity.

Now, this body of mine needs at least 45 minutes of exercise a day. I find when I am eating right and exercising daily I look and feel my best. It not only benefits my body but my mind as well. It takes a great level of discipline for me to eat as well as I need to and work out on a consistent basis. But I realized that consistency and discipline are the keys. And I don’t have a choice, it’s just necessary for a successful life.

Weekly

In wanting to push my life forward I’ve decided to try something new at least once a week.  I find that in the land of discovery I am more challenged and enriched as a person. I love learning new things, meeting new people, eating different foods and going to new places. Basically, stepping out of my comfort zone and avoiding being stuck doing the same thing all the time. I think it’s absolutely BORING and I am not having that in my life.

Monthly

I have always been introverted and to myself. Truthfully, I love alone time but sometimes maybe too much, to the point where I close myself off from people at times, which in turn leaves me not socializing enough with family and friends. So I made a pact to myself to change that. Now I make sure several times a month regardless of my schedule I spend time with family and friends. I realized I need that balance between work and play to feel normal.

Yearly

Traveling is such an essential part of my life. I love discovering new places and learning new cultures. I have to say it feeds me and it excites me every time the plane takes off and lands. I am a traveling junkie. I love to take small trips throughout the year and at least one big trip somewhere out of the country. Traveling is not only seeing new places for me it’s also about growth. In asking God to enlarge my territories what better way to do that then by expanding my sphere of knowledge in different cities and countries. I love to travel. It’s not just a want in my life but a need.
