Serums Vs Oils What Is The Difference?

Oils and serums may feel the same, but they are not. Each has its own specific benefits for the skin. The key is to know your skin and what it needs in order to determine which one is appropriate for your skin’s needs.

Let’s talk about oils

Typically oils are intended to hydrate the skin. Even though our skin produces its own natural oil known as sebum, many factors, both internal and environmental, influence its production, which can cause either too much or too little.

  • It provides a protective layer, which prevents bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Moisturize for our hair and skin.
  • Maintains skin’s flexibility

Internal factors influencing production include hormonal imbalance (excess androgens like testosterone), disease of the pituitary and adrenal glands. External factors include toxicants in food, skincare, household care, and personal care products, which leads to hormonal imbalance.

Now on to serums

Serums are equally as important for healthy skin as they repair and protect against various issues.

  • Because they are lightweight and made up of smaller molecules, they can penetrate deep within the third layer of the cells to treat and repair.
  • Combat hyperpigmentation
  • Treats signs of premature aging

Remember, they are both beneficial and can both be incorporated into your skincare regimen.
