Tell us a bit about yourself – where you live, where you’re from and what you’re creating

Hello beautiful people! I’m Missie, and I am all too happy to be a part of this awesome mission which is to share some love and to support a community of women with commonalities of strength, purpose & self care, which is self love! I currently reside in Maryland but I was born and raised in Northern Virginia where diversity and culture is prominent and I lived just 20 minutes away from DC which of course was the icing on the cake. DC was my home away from home…(and I still adore it and respect it.) Now, it’s slightly further but I love the essence of DC and always will.

At a glance: I am a high energy gal who loves to read and write. I actually grew up in a very diverse neighborhood where my big sis and I were friends with all the kid’s and we didn’t take notes on who was black and who wasn’t. We just had good clean fun! I am also a mother of a beautiful and brilliant young lady who is attending pre-law in college, just as I am! So, it’s great that we encourage and inspire one another. Going back to school at 50 is no joke. But, I am tremendously blessed and excited to begin this law journey as God is my rock and shield…I know I can do the impossible!!! Aside from school, I love singing & dancing and grew up thinking I’d be a Soul Train dancer or a professional cheerleader! (I blame Paula Abdul for that!) I have participated in singing contests and did some amateur events singing here and there growing up..but nothing lately. (Sigh)

Share with us some of the self-care rituals you practice:

DAILY

My daily ritual consists of prayer! I am a Christian and I have a personal relationship with my Lord & Savior…Jesus Christ. I know for myself that God is the only source for me in this life! Aside from prayer, I really don’t have a daily ritual…(Well, I do moisturize my skin everyday! Currently using POND’S REJUVENESS cream moisturizer and love it!!!)

Weekly

I have just recently started a skincare ritual that includes a Papaya Koji Soap, and Black African Soap. These soaps are designed to fade blotchy skin, treat hyperpigmentation, and melasma. I’ve just invested in a PETER THOMAS ROTH anti aging cleanser that I am excited to finally try. Also, I’ve added OLAY ULTIMATE EYE CREAM…and OLAY REGENERIST (Miracle Boost Concentrate) that I use maybe once every few weeks. I love serums! ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR (Estee Lauder)  is a great serum for it’s anti aging benefits!

SKIN BOOSTER: MOISTURE SURGE (Clinique) is one of a kind!!! An absolute must have for radiating skin without fragrance or irritation. Leaves my skin glowing without feeling oily or greasy. Absolutely amazing on all skin types.

Monthly

I’ve been getting back to using my weighted hoola hoop! This will soon be my weekly ritual. I made a video last year of me hoola hooping throughout an entire song without dropping my hoop! ( Heavy D & The Boyz) I got a ton of likes and really cool comments on that video on Facebook. I’ve just ordered a brand new weighted hoop that is 3 pounds and it hurts! I was used to 2.5. This new hoola will definitely help me tone with a more intense mid section workout and eventually I plan to create another video with my new hoola! Yaaayy!!! I love movement. It helps my achy muscles and it  just feels good…I hope to incorporate dance with my hoola and start my own IG community. If you’re thinking about buying a weighted hoop…start with lighter pounds because you will be sore around your waist area, but the more you use it…you’ll get used to it. Then, you’ll see results!

Annually

Haven’t picked up an annual ritual. My life is so spontaneous and unpredictable that I barely have time to even think that far in advance to plan anything concrete. In my dreams I’d like to stay at a 5 star hotel/resort for a weekend in NYC or Cali to pamper myself and enjoy the sights! That would be an ideal annual ritual. (Or ride a Unicorn in the deep forest!) HA!!!!! 🦄
